Team Knowledge – Samantha Dummer

Samantha joined the business in 1986 and she looks after our accounts department as Financial Accounts Manager. We took a moment out of her day to find out a little more about being an integral part of the Status team.

Tell us about a typical day in the office.

No one day is ever the same.  I’m always busy as I deal with all aspects from purchase ledger to sales ledger, banking, and answering supplier and customers queries.

What is the most interesting aspect of your job?

I can’t put my finger on any one thing as I enjoy all of it.

Have you worked in any other department of the business?

The business has gone through many changes over the years and I have been here since the start. Watching the business go through changes and then grow over the years is great and I am proud to be part of that growth.

What qualifications did you undertake to become a financial account manager? 

I just sort of fell into the role really. To cut a long story short, and some years ago now, it was only me working in the Admin Department, so I literally covered all the bases. As the company grew, we hired more people, allowing me to delegate certain duties. Around that time, I became more interested in the Accounts side and supporting the Directors with month end. Status were great, and booked me onto a Sage Accounts Course. I also work closely with our external accountants and support their monthly visit. As they say… here we are today, that’s it in a nutshell and I’m still here.

Have you ever operated a CMM?

No, I haven’t operated any, but I find them fascinating and it’s great to see where they end up. People here are so knowledgeable about the technical capabilities of CMM’s and its also great to see so many people coming in for training sessions. But definitely not an area of expertise for me!

How would you describe the team at Status?

They really are a lovely team of people.  I couldn’t work with better. They’re always professional and friendly. I really enjoy working with everyone here.

Which departments do you work closely with at Status?

All of them – finance touches just about every department so I get to work with just about everyone at some point.

What piece of advice would you give to anyone looking to become a financial accounts manager?

If you really like working with figures and pay attention to detail, it’s a varied job and you’ll never be bored.
