What is GD&T?
Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) is widely recognised as the universal language of engineering drawings. It defines part geometry by specifying not only size, but also form, orientation, location and allowable variation.
Unlike traditional dimensioning, GD&T defines how features relate to each other in three-dimensional space, ensuring components function correctly and assemble as intended.
Without a clear understanding of GD&T, drawings can be misinterpreted. This can result in:
- Components that appear correct in size but fail to assemble properly

About the Course
This 1-day course introduces the principles of measurement, engineering drawings and GD&T, supported by practical examples.
It covers how these elements are applied in manufacturing and inspection, including:
- Fundamentals of measurement, including accuracy, precision and measurement uncertainty
- Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, including dimensions, tolerances and projection methods
- GD&T principles, including datums, feature control frames and common geometric tolerances
- An overview of inspection methods and measurement equipment, including conventional tools and CMMs
The course is delivered using practical examples to support real-world application.
