Hexagon's Autonomous Metrology suite: What to expect?

As a proud player in the engineering industry, we are all about innovation and excellence when it comes to the services and products we provide. Not only that, but we strive to be at the forefront of new technologies, allowing us to provide modern, efficient and tailored metrology solutions to our customers. With the recent news of Hexagon’s Manufacturing Intelligence division launching their new Autonomous Metrology Suite (AMS), we knew it is something  we had to talk about as we can’t wait to get our hands on it.

What us Hexagon’s Autonomous Metrology Suite?

Developed on Hexagon’s cloud-based platform, Nexus, this new metrology autonomous suite software is specifically designed to revolutionise quality control on a global level, regardless of industry. By removing the need for coding from CMM programming processes, Hexagon’s Autonomous Metrology Suite will boost efficiency of manufacturing processes as truly experienced metrologists like those here at Status become increasingly sought-after.

It is no secret that as skilled metrologists become harder to find, manufacturers are starting to feel the pinch, regular design changes and a throw-away culture influencing shorter product lifecycles have resulted in precision measurement services facing a never-seen-before demand. Hexagon’s AMS is said to tackle this issue head-on by mitigating the chance of human error and making the ability for precision measurements more accessible and reliable.

Gary Peacock, General Manager Metrology Software at Hexagon explains:
“With more pressure on experienced metrologists, Autonomous Metrology Suite amplifies their efforts by automating processes from programming to multiple CMM execution and reporting, removing quality control bottlenecks with consistent measurements.”

Hexagon’s AMS utilises digital counterparts for every connected CMM. The software will seamlessly align itself with any physical twin to ensure the correct inspection programme is implemented on the correct machine.

What Can we Expect?

  • No-Code Programming: Operators will be able to utilise the Metrology Mentor to auto-generate inspection routines from CAD, drastically reducing the time and skill needed whilst ensuring consistent following of GD&T standards.
  • Ease of Use: Thanks to an intuitive overarching interface across all apps users can expect to be able to drag and drop files, follow onscreen prompts, and see updates in real-time across the suite. This means that users will face less of a learning curve with this ‘know-one-know-all’ approach.
  • Reduced Bottlenecks: The integration of Hexagon’s Autonomous Metrology Suite should result in seamless, streamline manufacturing processes that not only reduce costs associated with wastage and scrap, but reduce inspection bottlenecks and boost production capabilities.
  • Automated Reporting: The suite enables automated reporting, calibration tracking and environmental monitoring, all from a central dashboard. This will give operators more qualified data to be able to better understand part variability and trends.
  • A New Era for Metrology: With the rollout of this new automated metrology suite, the sector will undoubtedly be revolutionised. Manufacturing will see increased abilities to cope with demand whilst reducing waste and costs. However, it is important to note that digital fluency will take front-seat in the new era of metrology to allow manufacturers to fully take advantage of this trailblazing software. So continuous workforce upskilling in digital fluency should be a priority.
