In modern manufacturing, having a clear understanding of engineering drawings isn’t just beneficial, it is essential. But developing that understanding doesn’t have to take weeks of training. With the right approach, it can be completed in a single, focused day.

Without structured training, even experienced teams can misinterpret drawings, leading to rework, rejected parts and unnecessary production costs. As components become more complex and tolerances tighter, the need for practical, time-efficient training has never been greater.

Status Metrology offers a one-day introduction to Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), designed to give engineers, inspectors and production teams a clear, working understanding of technical drawings. The first date available with limited spaces will be 1st July 2026.

GD&T provides a consistent way of defining how a part should function, going beyond simple dimensions to communicate design intent. Through focused, hands-on training, individuals can quickly develop the confidence to interpret drawings correctly, understanding not just size, but how features relate to each other in three-dimensional space.

In just one day, this practical knowledge can reduce ambiguity, improve consistency and support more reliable manufacturing and inspection processes across a business.

GD&T Training at Status Metrology

Alongside our CMM software training, we offer a 1-day introduction to Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), designed to help individuals interpret and apply technical drawing information in real-world environments.

The course takes a practical, hands-on approach, focusing on how GD&T is used within manufacturing and inspection rather than just theoretical definitions.

It introduces the key principles of measurement, engineering drawings and geometric tolerancing, helping individuals understand how these elements work together in practice.

What the course covers?

The course is supported by practical examples and covers:

  • Fundamentals of measurement, including accuracy, precision and measurement uncertainty
  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, including dimensions, tolerances and projection methods
  • GD&T principles, including datums, feature control frames and common geometric tolerances
  • An overview of inspection methods and measurement equipment, including conventional tools and CMMs

This approach helps individuals apply GD&T more confidently in practice, improving how technical drawings are interpreted and how variation is understood across design, manufacturing and inspection.

Practical, Flexible Training

The course is suitable for engineers, inspectors and anyone working with or interpreting technical drawings, whether they are new to GD&T or looking to strengthen their existing knowledge.

In addition to scheduled training, we also offer bespoke GD&T training packages tailored to specific requirements. This allows organisations to focus on the areas most relevant to their processes, applications and inspection challenges.

Upon completion, attendees receive a certificate, recognising their understanding of GD&T principles and their application in practice.

Recent attendees have highlighted the practical value of the course and how it applies directly to their day-to-day roles.

“Great knowledge by the trainer and the information was presented well and made it easy to understand.” Ashley Dixon

Another participant mentioned, Emma Skellington said; “Great course. Loads of information and knowledge gained. Richard is really knowledgeable and able to answer our questions and made sure we all understood before moving on.”
