Apprentice Week takes place from 5 – 11th February and brings together businesses and apprentices across the country. This year’s theme is ‘Skills for Life’, reflecting on how apprentices can develop the skills and knowledge required for a rewarding career and how businesses can train and retain a skilled workforce with future-ready skills.
Here at Status Metrology, we are proud to support National Apprentice Week 2024, promoting the benefits of apprenticeships and the positive impact they can have on our communities, businesses and economy. Precision isn’t just our business, it’s our passion. National Apprenticeship Week isn’t just a calendar date for us, it’s a chance to nurture the next generation of excellence.
We get involved because we see ourselves in those eager apprentices, that spark of curiosity and dedication yearning for direction. By sharing our knowledge, opening doors to practical experience, and fostering a love for precision, we’re not just building careers, we’re building the very foundation of quality for years to come. So, when National Apprenticeship Week arrives, we don’t just participate, we lead the charge. Because the future of metrology needs it, and nurturing that future is precisely what we do best.
We believe in cultivating the next generation of metrology masters, regardless of their background, age, or experience. True excellence thrives in diversity, and that’s reflected in our commitment to offering inclusive apprenticeships. We break down barriers and welcome individuals from all walks of life, fostering a dynamic learning environment where everyone feels valued and empowered to contribute.

We are proud to take this opportunity to tell the story of Jonathan who started with us as an apprentice in 2011 in the applications team.
As a result of Jonathan’s desire to learn, his impeccably high standards, and his willingness to support our customers, he has rapidly progressed through the ranks at Status. Since joining us as a fresh-faced applications apprentice, Jonathan has become an applications engineer, a trainer, a team leader, and most recently an Applications and Training Manager.
“I love the fact that even though the department is the same loyal team and the same software, every day is different. We train people, measure parts, report to customers, evaluate new equipment, or demonstrate the software at customer meetings. This keeps the job fun and keeps us on our toes.”
Having joined the company in 2018, James has an eye for detail and a passion for all things mechanical and electrical. Most of James’ time has been spent repairing machinery, calibrating and, more recently, upgrading and converting pretty much any CMM to run PC-DMIS. As a result of his tenacity and enthusiasm, he became a field service engineer before becoming our Technical Engineer.
“I get a lot of satisfaction from fixing machines. I love seeing a customer’s face when a problem is gone. Or the machine is more accurate, enhanced or running better. Also, I tend to be the project guy so I’m working with the machines movers on lumping and humping, which brings a lot of challenges, but they’re also great to work with.”
